It is very exciting, you have your social media schedule in place and it’s all happening! All your potential customers will be jumping onto your page and sending plenty of support your way, that’s the way it’s meant to work, right? It’s been a week, a month or more, you have been posting to schedule but not getting any engagement. According to your insights / analytics, your posts are being seen or viewed but NOTHING ELSE IS HAPPENING!! Why is this so, you ask yourself.
First check who is following you – if you have just started up, is it mainly friends and family? They may love your business but are not necessarily going to engage by commenting, sharing or liking / favouriting your posts. You need to find your customers who are interested in your products. How do you do this?
Let your customers know where to find you (in the digital space), have your website, Facebook, Twitter, Pintrest, etc etc listed in all of your marketing collateral. Provide live (and correct) links to those sites in any electronic newsletters that get sent out. Comment on similar pages / product sites (all good comments), others will see your company name and may get curious to click on you.
Received great feedback from a customer? Ask them to post it to your social media page, name great staff members, provide examples of great service, it all adds to the community factor for your business. On the flip side, this is also a very easy forum for people to vent an immediate dissatisfaction, especially in a tourism / hospitality type business. How you respond to this type of post must reflect on your business ethos. Too many businesses have been caught out by inappropriate responses to adverse comments. Here is an example of a great response by a company (Facebook), I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
The main point to take away from this post? Create your digital presence. You will not get engagement if no one knows you are there.
